Family Summer Adventure — Expedition on the Solar Explorer

Introductory Research Cruise on Lake Werbellin - 5 to 15 people

Lake Werbellin, one of Brandenburg’s largest and clearest lakes, stretches out before us in deep blue. Sails glisten in the distance, and a gray heron glides by with a leisurely flap of its wings. Hidden at the bottom lie the wrecks of historic ships.

From Altenhof, we board the Solar Explorer for a voyage of discovery. Our solar-powered catamaran glides almost silently across the water. During the one-hour introductory cruise, we take a close look at the lake—we use a dip net, examine specimens under a microscope, collect water and soil samples, and use binoculars to scan the work deck. Which bird of prey is circling over the forest? How can an entire ship be powered by the sun’s energy? What is the “silver treasure” of Lake Werbellin? And just how much life is actually in a glass of water? Climate-friendly mobility, biodiversity conservation, life in the Schorfheide-Chorin UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, the ecology and history of a unique clear-water lake—all these topics come together aboard the Solar Explorer. During the one-hour cruise, our environmental education guide will accompany you. You can use the equipment provided on board to explore the lake on your own.

Are you an educator or teacher planning a group field trip? Then book your research adventure directly at www.solar-explorer.de!
