Mindful Coexistence Between Humans and Nature

Angermünde, a state-recognized resort town, is surrounded by two national protected areas that could not be more different: the Schorfheide-Chorin Biosphere Reserve, rich in forests and lakes, with its “rolling hills” shaped by the Ice Age. Right in the middle lies the ancient yet mighty Buchenwald Grumsin, with its untamed heart. Its flora and fauna are so unique that it is strictly protected as a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site. The biosphere reserve also includes the Sernitz Lowlands with their restored bog—a model ecological project on a national scale. An ideal breeding and foraging area for bird species that have become rare. The Unteres Odertal National Park, Germany’s only floodplain national park and one of its most biodiverse natural areas. Plenty of water and birdlife under a vast sky. Don’t forget your binoculars!

With the Schorfheide-Chorin UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, Angermünde not only has one of Germany’s largest protected landscapes “right on its doorstep,” but also its largest organic farming area. Thanks to its convenient location, Angermünde is the ideal starting point for exploring the Uckermark—a vast, sparsely populated region shaped by the Ice Age and rich in biodiversity—as well as the neighboring Polish part of the Unteres Odertal, whether on foot, by bike, or by canoe. Close enough yet far enough away—the welcoming, down-to-earth region of Angermünde offers a fulfilling, nature-filled destination for excursions and a place to live, with plenty of room for personal growth.
