Organ Tour

St. Marien Church in Angermünde houses a Baroque organ built by Joachim Wagner. He was the most prominent organ builder in Berlin-Brandenburg in the 18th century and built the organ at St. Marien Church in Angermünde from 1742 to 1744.

The construction of this organ was preceded by a bitter dispute between the provost and the cantor, which King Frederick William of Prussia himself finally put an end to by intervening decisively in favor of the cantor and ordering the construction of the new organ in a letter.

This organ has a total of 30 stops, distributed across 2 manuals, and features 1,850 pipes. Of these, 1,380—or approximately 60%—were made by Wagner. In addition to 22 stops, the case, 2 wedge-shaped bellows, 2 cymbal stars, and 2 kettle drums have been preserved in their original condition.

It is thus one of the best-preserved Baroque organs in Germany and, after the Wagner organ in Brandenburg Cathedral, the second-largest surviving Wagner organ. However, it is the only Wagner organ to feature a timpani system played by the accompanying angels. A special Prussian cultural treasure in Brandenburg’s organ landscape!
