AudioGuide Angermünde:

NEW! Explore the historic city center of Angermünde at your own pace using your smartphone at

Angermünde, Uckermark (Brandenburg), May 13, 2024 – The Angermünde Tourism Association (TVA) and its partners are committed to sustainable cultural development. Their mission is to experience culture today and preserve it for tomorrow.
The small, welcoming town itself captivates visitors with its meticulously restored historic downtown and its vibrant cultural and arts scene. Haus Uckermark, one of Angermünde’s oldest half-timbered houses, has been extensively renovated. Today, it serves as a modern cultural and information center, housing the Angermünde Museum and the Tourist Information Office. This is where the audio tour begins via QR code.

“The Heathens of Kummerow” Give a Tour of the Old Town
Krischan Klammbüdel and Martin Grambauer, along with their dog Flock—the heroes from Ehm Welk’s novels *The Heathens of Kummerow* and *The Righteous of Kummerow*—give a tour of the town. Cast in bronze, they welcome their guests in front of the Uckermark House. Krischan—a cowherd and friend to children—is the worldly-wise companion of Martin, who, as a lovable “rascal”—clever and with a strong sense of justice—bears autobiographical traits of Ehm Welk.
On a stroll through the streets and alleys—which is also a journey through the centuries—they recount, among other things, the stories of the pillory donkey, the Angermünde “elle” as a measure of justice, and the emigrant “China-Müller,” who later shaped the city’s destiny.

A Place Full of History and Stories
A digital map guides visitors to 14 stops along the route. Depending on their interests, visitors can customize the tour by pausing at or skipping certain stops. Stops include the Old Town Hall, the market square with its fountain, City Hall, and the district courthouse with its old, still-preserved prison wing where Wilhelm Voigt was incarcerated—the same man who, nearly 40 years later, achieved dubious worldwide fame through a daring coup in Berlin as the “Captain of Köpenick.” There are interesting facts to learn about the sights—St. Mary’s Church, the castle ruins and malt house, the Franciscan monastery church, and the Heilig-Geist-Kapelle—before the walk ends at the 14th meridian—which runs from Spitsbergen in the north through Angermünde and Sicily to Libya and Namibia in southern Africa—ends.
