Guided Tour: "The Red Giant and the Wavering Giant"
May through August / Registration required
The tour begins in the Slavic era 1,000 years ago, when a mighty castle stood here. Silver treasures, burial sites, and an ancient sword serve as reminders of this eventful period.
Seven years ago, a dog that found a thigh bone made this exciting journey through time possible for us…
Afterward, we ascend to lofty heights in the Stolper Grützpott, Europe’s most imposing tower castle. From here, we enjoy a fantastic panoramic view over the Unteres Odertal National Park all the way to Poland.
The von Buch Family’s Castle Park—ancient, wild, and teeming with biodiversity
We continue past the castle into the former enchanted estate park. Here, ancient, majestic trees remind us of the park’s past, telling us their stories. A narrow path leads us to fish ponds managed in an environmentally friendly way. A small, species-rich ecosystem has developed here. Birds that have become rare, such as the marsh warbler, have found a home at the Stolpe Ponds.
Now it’s time to “watch the birds and listen to the frog concert.” Don’t forget your binoculars!
The return trip runs right along the canal, the Hohensaatener-Friedrichsthaler Waterway. It’s fascinating to see just how drastically humans have transformed the Unteres Odertal over the past 150 years.
This guided nature and cultural tour is available in German and English.
