Grumsiner Genusswanderweg

Hiking route: 14 km (17 km including a detour to Schmargendorf)
Start: Angermünde Train Station
Trail marker: turquoise “G” on a white background

Look forward to a hiking adventure through the Schorfheide-Chorin UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, a protected area rich in natural and cultural heritage.

This approximately 17-kilometer-long, varied route winds through diverse cultural landscapes and vast, vibrant natural areas, passing through a gently rolling ground moraine landscape—the iconic feature of the Uckermark region, shaped by the Ice Age.
The final stage takes you through the majestic beech forest, along the UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site. Deep valleys and rugged mountain ranges are the striking legacy of gigantic, converging glaciers. Along the route, regional organic cafés, restaurants, and farm stands showcase just how delicious the region’s produce is.

Tour Description:

A turquoise “G” marks the way from the Angermünde train station. Pass the Hotel Weiss with its SPA-Kranichinsel (see “Short Getaway in Angermünde—Accommodations with Wellness”). A real highlight in the fall and winter!

We continue on toward Sternfelde. Here you’ll find the Mosterei Klimmek, which has a farm stand with no frills.
Fresh fruit—mostly locally sourced—is the focus of this family-run business.

Next, we’re heading to Zuchenberg.

From here, the trail continues along the Grumsiner Genusswanderweg toward Luisenhof or as a detour to Schmargendorf (about 1.6 km one way). We think that, if you have the energy and time, you shouldn’t miss out on this.
With its café offering stunning panoramic views, a milk shop, a playground, and a large herb garden—as well as calves and other animals to pet—the Hemme Milch Hof has become a popular family destination in the Schorfheide-Chorin Biosphere Reserve.

Back in Zuchenberg, we now continue on toward Luisenhof. Here, the G-Trail passes by the Louisenhof Artists’ Barn, No. 2. Artistry as far as the eye can see. Often crafted from found objects or old tools, and brought to life in harmony with nature. A wonderful place for a creative break with coffee and homemade cake.

While the hike has so far taken you through gently rolling ground moraine terrain, you’ll now find yourself on a roller-coaster-like route through the majestic Buchenwald Grumsin, with its lake, alder swamps, and bogs. The deep depressions and rugged ridges are the striking legacy of gigantic, converging glaciers.

You’ll be hiking very close to the Buchenwald Grumsin sub-site of the UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site. To your right are the beech trees in the commercial forest zone (buffer zone), which is also protected, and to your left is a direct view of the World Heritage beech forest.
No entry whatsoever! You can also experience the power and magic of the untamed forest up close as you walk along the trail.

Once you arrive in Altkünkendorf, the Buchenwald Grumsin World Natural Heritage Information Center looks forward to welcoming you, and you can then cap off your tour with a sensory culinary experience at the Grumsiner Brennerei!

The WelterbeBus Grumsin will take you back to Angermünde quickly and comfortably. If you realize you might miss the last bus, just call the RufBus! Please note: You must book the bus at least 1 hour before your desired departure time. Online booking is also available Mon.–Sun.
