Angermünder Hirschschwimmen e.V. – Experience Regional History Firsthand

The Angermünder Hirschschwimmen e. V. was founded in 2008 and has since become one of the most unique and family-friendly clubs in Angermünde. Its origins trace back to the legendary “Hirschschwimmen” across Lake Mündesee—an extraordinary event based on an old legend surrounding the stag featured in Angermünde’s city coat of arms. With this idea, the association has fostered a special connection between the city’s history, local traditions, and exciting activities from the very beginning.

Today, the association’s work focuses primarily on teaching regional history to children. With a great deal of creativity, the association develops scavenger hunts, themed hikes, and treasure hunts that are specially tailored to young explorers. These activities can be enjoyed not only as one-off events but can also be booked by school classes and daycare groups. This makes history exciting, engaging, and age-appropriate.

A key figure in the association is Hirsch Hannibal, portrayed by city tour guide and regional historian Steffen Tuchscherer. He came up with the idea for the association and remains closely associated with it to this day. As its figurehead, he shares his knowledge of Angermünde and the region in an entertaining way, bringing history to life for children and families.

In addition, the association organizes a large children’s festival on the promenade every year, featuring numerous free attractions for children and families. In doing so, Hirschschwimmen e. V. creates a highlight of the annual calendar of events and fosters shared experiences in a cheerful atmosphere. The association also regularly participates in other events in the city, such as the Easter celebration at the zoo, the Angermünde City Festival, and the children’s Christmas market organized by the municipal utilities.

The Angermünder Hirschschwimmen e. V. uniquely combines tradition, local history, and family experiences. What once began as a swimming race across Lake Mündesee has evolved into a wide-ranging commitment to children and families in Angermünde.
