Greiffenberg Bog Nature Trail – Experience Nature Up Close
As part of the restoration of the Sernitzmoor bog near Greiffenberg, an informative and nature-oriented bognature trailwas created to introduce visitors to the fascinating world of bogs. The approximately 2-kilometer loop trail is especially geared toward families, school groups, and anyone who wants to explore nature with an open mind.


Child-friendly and easy to understand: What makes a bog so special?
The trail explains the functions of a bog in a way that is easy to understand and vividly illustrated—from water and carbon storage to providing a habitat for numerous animal and plant species, and the importance of intact bogs for climate protection.


Hiking on Damp Trails
Part of the nature trail follows paths that are close to nature and sometimes damp—sturdy footwear is recommended. Along the route, informational signs, notes, and explanations invite you to stop, marvel, and learn.


Discovering Beaver Tracks
A special highlight: Visitors can discover the tracks ofa beaverfamily—including a real beaver lodge, which impressively showcases these animals’ architectural skills. Here, nature observation can be combined with exciting insights into animal life.


Boardwalk Through the Sea of Reeds
For about 300 meters, the trail follows a boardwalk that cuts straight through a dense reed bed—a true nature experience offering a view of an otherwise inaccessible marsh landscape.


Platform with a listening tube and seating
Halfway along the trail, a small platform with a bench invites you to take a break. Here you’ll find more information—and a special highlight: a listening tube that lets you hear the mysterious sounds of the marsh.

A Playful Return to the Starting Point
On the way back, a moor-themed memory game, additional information signs, and other creative elements line the path back to the starting point. This helps visitors remember their experience—in a playful and informative way, designed with a deep love of nature.
