A Treasure on the Sernitz

Hiking route: 6 km
Start: Greiffenberg
Trail marker: Heidenwanderweg (yellow dot on a white background)

The Sernitzmoor, located between Greiffenberg and Biesenbrow, reveals to the attentive hiker a wondrous natural landscape of wet meadows, sedge grass, spring-fed streams, and bog forests. It’s teeming with life here, just as Mother Nature intended. This ideal habitat for plants and birds that have become rare is part of the Schorfheide-Chorin EU Special Protection Area. The life-Schreiadler project ( lifeschreiadler.de) is active here, and exotic water buffalo thrive in the area. The “Kleine Schäferei Biesenbrow” delights hungry heathland hikers with its delicious lamb dishes and charming, small-farm atmosphere.

Be sure to bring sturdy shoes and binoculars!

If you’d like to go on a longer hike, take the “Uckermärker Landrunde” trail from Angermünde through Mürow and Welsow to Biesenbrow. A leisurely hike of about 6 hours (17 km).
