Grumsiner Genusswanderweg - A forest like no other!

This Grumsin “Hiking for Pleasure” route begins with a visit to the information center at the World Natural Heritage Site in Altkünkendorf. The more we learn about the natural life and biodiversity of this forest, the more mindfully we observe it. And the more deeply we experience nature, the happier it makes us. The destination is the Hemme Milch Hof “pleasure spot” in Schmargendorf.

The turquoise G leads you out of the village. After about 800 meters, you’ll already be entering the forest. The next section of the hike, from Altkünkendorf to Louisenhof No. 2, runs along the Buchenwald Grumsin, a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site, and is certainly the most dynamic section of the Grumsiner Genusswanderweg.

The deep valleys and rugged mountain ranges—the striking legacy of gigantic, converging glaciers—take you on a roller-coaster ride. To the left are the beech trees in the similarly protected commercial forest zone (buffer zone), and to the right is an unobstructed view of the World Heritage beech forest. No entry whatsoever! You can also experience the power and magic of the untamed forest up close as you walk along the trail.

A ridge leads deeper into the forest. The farther you hike, the larger and more imposing the beech trees become… how small we humans are!

After a brisk hike through the lush, rugged beech forest, a coffee break at Galerie und Atelier Louisenhof No. 2 is just what you need. A beautiful, truly special place to relax and enjoy yourself!

The “G wie Grumsiner Genuss” hiking trail now winds through a gently rolling landscape of ground moraines. From here on, the trail winds through diverse cultivated landscapes and vast, vibrant natural areas, following the steady ups and downs of the “rolling hills”—the iconic landscape feature of the Uckermark, shaped by the Ice Age.

Turn right off the hiking trail toward Zuchenberg. This is where Andreas Grunewald’s Dexter cattle graze. These miniature cattle grow up to 1 m tall and are simply adorable to look at. They’re a real animal highlight along the route, especially for children.

Just 1.6 more kilometers of leisurely hiking through varied farmland, and you’ll have reached your destination in Schmargendorf. The Hemme Milch Hof, with its farm café and Milchladen Hemme Milch, looks forward to welcoming you!
