21st Annual "Kranichtage"
in the Unteres Odertal National Park
October 2–4 and October 9–11, 2026
When autumn settles over the Unteres Odertal, one of the most impressive times of the year begins.
Thousands of cranes stop to rest in the region on their migration south. During the 2026 Crane Days, nature lovers can experience this special spectacle and learn more about the fascinating “bird of good luck.”
This year, the Crane Days will take place over two weekends:
October 2–4, 2026
October 9–11, 2026
A varied program of events awaits visitors around Gartz (Oder), Mescherin, and the Unteres Odertal National Park.
Guided excursions offer the opportunity to observe the cranes at their resting areas and as they fly in at dusk.
The program is complemented by other nature experiences, hikes, canoe tours, and informative activities focused on the national park’s flora and fauna.
Other highlights of the first weekend of events include the town festival in Gartz (Oder) on October 3 and the Crane Festival in Mescherin on October 4.
An Autumn Nature Experience in the Untere Odertal
The Unteres Odertal is a particularly worthwhile destination during the fall bird migration.
The vast floodplain landscape provides important resting and roosting areas for the cranes and, at the same time, offers exceptional opportunities for nature observation.
Anyone wishing to experience these majestic birds should pack binoculars and weatherproof clothing.
Especially in the evening hours, when the cranes fly together to their roosts, a very special atmosphere emerges.
